Bankfull Discharge in Mountain Streams in the Cauca Region of Colombia

چکیده
A flow considered effective or dominant in the process of stable channel forming, is the bankfull discharge associated to frequency between 1 and 2 years with an average of 1.5 year, according to Dunne and Leopold, 1978. Bankfull discharge or forming discharge is the flow which defines the morphological characteristics of the channel such as bars, meanders and curves. In this article, different approximations for channel forming discharge are explored from the morphological and statistical point of view, in order to establish the frequency of the forming discharge for some rivers in the Andes Region of the Department of Cauca, Colombia. 1 Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburra. Regime equations for Mountain Streams in the Cauca Region of Colombia
Knowledge of the dimensions of a stable stream channel during a specific period of time and of its corresponding forming discharge allows determining parameters of regime equations for a region, which enhance the design of channels in other zones with similar characteristics. Nowadays, the state-of-the-art for regime channel does not include the typical streams of the Department of Cauca charac...
متن کاملBankfull discharge determination using the new Invertebrate Bankfull Assessment Method
Along the paper the new method called Invertebrate Bankfull Assessment method (IBA method) of determination of bankfull discharge is presented. The investigation of bankfull discharge using IBA were performed within one Polish Carpathian stream in the mountain region: the Ochotnica Stream. As an index of bankfull the existence of certain species of invertebrates was used which are present and r...
متن کاملChannel geometry of mountain streams in New Zealand
A dataset of 21 study reaches in the Porter and Kowai rivers (eastern side of the South Island), and 13 study reaches in Camp Creek and adjacent catchments (western side of the South Island) was used to examine downstream hydraulic geometry of mountain streams in New Zealand. Streams in the eastern and western regions both exhibit well-developed downstream hydraulic geometry, as indicated by st...
متن کاملHydraulic Geometry Curves in the Pee Dee Watershed
Abstract. Hydraulic bankfull geometry or regional curves are a useful metric for evaluating stream stability and planning stream restoration projects. Streams and tributaries within the Middle Pee Dee River Basin (MPDRB) in South Carolina drain an agrarian and forested landscape characterized by water conveyance structures, such as active and historical ditches which support forestry and agricu...
متن کاملBankfull Discharge Recurrence Interval in Gravel-bed Rivers
Bankfull discharge was identified in some 30 gravel-bed rivers representing in total c. 40 gauging stations. The catchment sizes vary from 4km2 to nearly 2700km2. Bankfull discharge value increases with basin size. In the case of gravel-bed rivers developed on an impermeable substratum, the following equation emerges: Qb=0·087 A 1·044. Bankfull discharge recurrence interval was determined by fi...
